In 2009 Murphy started to develop a unique ballast system that could fill while it was moving. His driving goal was to be able to start a boat empty to save fuel and wear on the boat. He eventually decided on the NACA duct: a flush water opening on the hull of the boat.

This system is currently in development.

The NACA duct was originally developed for airplanes, but is now favored on race cars. The flush design provides minimal disturbance to water flow beneath and behind the boat.
